Victim-to-victor stance
March 15th, 2009 by webmasterThis is the basic stance you want to start off with. Your strong leg should be back, arms forward, hands open. It has many benefits.
Deceptive
It’s called “Victim-to-victor” for a reason. You appear to not want ny trouble, but you are actually getting ready for it.
Your hands are up and serve as a shield to any attacks, but are also ready to strike. Because your hands are open instead of closed fists however it appears to be simply a gesture instead of an invitation to fight.
Body Language
This stance sends a clear message to back off, in any language.
Boundary Setting
Putting your hands out like this is like drawing a line in the sand. If they cross it things have already become physical. You don’t have to wonder if a physical response is appropriate.
Maneuverability
With one foot further back than the other you can simply turn your body and you are ready to run the other way.
Defense
Your hands are up to help shield you from any attacks. This is the same reason boxers keep their hands up.
Offense
From this position it is extremely easy to strike with your hands or even a kick.
