An attacker doesn’t want everyone to see what’s going on. They don’t want to gt caught. They don’t want attention.
Therefore you should make it a priority to attract as much attention as possible.
Always remember to Just Yell “Fire”
It may sound odd at first to yell “fire” when there is no fire, but there are many good reasons for it. Read the rest of this entry »

Instincts are a wonderful thing, but sometimes people second guess themselves.
They think “Oh I’m just overreacting” or “I don’t want to seem rude”.
Always trust your danger instincts!
You have nothing to lose by being cautious. Who cares if you’re wrong? Who cares if it’s rude? No skin of your back.
Everyone is wrong sometimes, wouldn’t you rather be TOO safe instead of not safe enough? Read the rest of this entry »

- Run against the traffic, not with it.
- Stay alert
- Vary your route. If you run the same route every day then anyone who has been following you or watching you knows where and when you will be alone and vulnerable.
- If you are out of town ask at the front desk of your motel for a safe running route.
- If you are out of the country, ask about safety and always respect local customs and dress. Read the rest of this entry »

Always keep your eyes and ears open. This is very important when it comes to enforcing boundaries.
It’s important to identify the key points in your daily routines when you could be more alert.
Ipod safety
One example is when you are listening to an ipod, you are unable to hear an attacker coming up behind you, someone shouting a warning, gunshots, or even a car coming. If you simply leave one earbud in and take one out, you can listen to your music and still be aware of the sounds around you.
Cellphone safety
Talking or texting in public has it’s place, but stay aware of the environment around you. Don’t become completely absorbed in it, and know when it’s time to turn it off. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s gross, but to avoid an attacker, sometimes you have to think like an attacker.
The type of person they are looking for is meek and quiet.
The type of person they are looking for won’t put up much of a fight, if any.
The type of person they are looking for is easily intimidated.
That type of person appears to be an “easy target”.
You can appear to be the exact opposite, a “hard target”, simply by projecting confidence with your body language. Read the rest of this entry »

Some people will tell you to maintain a distance of 5 feet, or 10 feet, or 20 feet. The truth however, is that it varies.
It’s never one answer. Instead of trying to remember an exact distance for every situation, just think about it as you go through your daily routine. How close is too close?
For example when you’re in a crowded elevator in a shopping mall, in broad daylight it may be perfectly acceptable to you to allow someone to stand 1 inch away from you.
At 3am however, in the dark parking lot of a bad neighborhood, it may be perfectly acceptable for you to maintain a distance of 50 feet. Read the rest of this entry »

This seems like a no-brainer but it still needs to be said: a piece of property is not worth risking your life and fighting for.
The news tells heroic stories about fighting off purse snatchers. Some self defense books and videos have entire sections dedicated to fighting off purse snatchers. It’s just not worth it.
If someone is attacking you, fight back with everything you’ve got. If they are not attacking you however, and are simply taking something of yours, do not physically fight them over it. It is much much safer to avoid a physical fight altogether if it’s not necessary. It’s another way of escaping. You can even toss the money one way and run the other way. Kick, bite and scratch, do whatever it takes to not be moved to a second location.
Your chances of survival go way down if you allow yourself to be taken to a second location.
Your attacker may promise not to hurt you if you go quietly with him somewhere, but that is obviously not true. He’s going to take you somewhere where it’s easier to hurt you. There will be no witnesses, it will be secluded where no one can hear you scream, he will be in control of the situation and have every advantage. He could commit horrible acts on you for days before getting rid of you if you go to a second location. Read the rest of this entry »

We recommend you always try to escape first, but if you can’t escape we recommend you always fight back.
Sometimes your attacker will promise not to hurt you if you do what he wants. Can you really trust the word of a person like this? Not only do your chances of survival go way up if you fight back, but you will recover from the psychological damage of an attack faster if you fight back.
Victims who do not fight back take longer to recover and are often haunted by the thought that they should have done more to stop it. Read the rest of this entry »

The very best defense is to get out of dodge, just run away! He can’t attack you you can maintain distance.
Run towards a place you know is safe, or you know will have a lot of people in it. Attackers hate crowds of witnesses. Scream while you’re at it.
Sometimes you are cornered, sometimes you are in a car with someone you trust, sometimes you can’t run. Sometimes you might not want to run for whatever reason, but we recommend that whenever you CAN run away, RUN AWAY. Read the rest of this entry »
